Happy New Year! I know 2017 is going to be a great year! I have had a restful break, but am ready to see the kiddos tomorrow!
We will use Thursday and Friday to get back into the swing of things. We will be reviewing what we have learned in the second quarter. We will also be reading The Mitten and completing some literacy activities to go with the story. There will be no homework Thursday or Friday.
Starting Monday, we are going to begin our third quarter unit studies as well as work on our individual IEP goals.
In reading:
Kindergartners and first graders will be learning about characters in books. We will be discussing similarities and differences in the characters experiences in the books.
Second graders will be looking at the author's purpose for writing a story.
In writing all grades will be writing/drawing an opinion piece. We will learn the difference between facts and opinions and then choose a topic to write about our opinion.
In math:
Kindergartners will be focusing on counting to 100 by ones and tens as well as comparing objects to 10.
First grade will continue to understand that 2 digits represent tens and ones and we will also learn about dimes
Second graders will be working on one and two step word problems and adding and subtracting within 20.
New spelling words and guided reading books will go home Monday.
Happy 2017! I am so looking forward to a year of growth for all of our students!

Happy Holidays! To make the last day before the Christmas
break memorable for our children, we have planned an exciting day for them.
We are going to have a “Holiday Happenings” day where the
students will travel from classroom to classroom creating holiday crafts,
hearing the story of Polar Express and watching the movie. As a special treat,
the children will enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. Students are invited to wear their pajamas
that day with school appropriate shoes.
We have been working on family gift bags that the students
will have you open on Christmas morning.
I hope you enjoy your gifts!!
If you have questions, you can contact me for more information.
Thank you,
Mrs. Marrow J
