Hello! I hope everyone had a great winter break.  I am looking forward to seeing the kids tomorrow and hearing about their vacations.   We will be right back into the swing of things tomorrow.  I will be doing BRIGANCE testing in the morning.  During testing, the other students will be working in centers on skills we have already covered.  I am hoping to have all testing done by Wednesday. In the afternoon we will continue working on math skills and seeing Ms B for speech.

Thursday is READ ACROSS AMERICA day honoring Dr. Seuss. This is always such a fun day that we spend reading Dr Seuss books and learning about his amazing life.  The students may dress in red, black, and white for the Cat in the Hat and we will be making our own cat hats!

There will be no new spelling words due to testing, but I will be sending home new guided reading books as well as new sight words.

Have a great week and I as always, feel free to contact me if you need anything.

We had another great week of learning! We are still learning about where we live.  The students are doing great remembering the country, state, and city we live in.  Some of them can even tell you the continent and their address!  Keep practicing at home! We will continue this unit this week.
For reading kindergartners will be working on the letter Uu and also continuing practicing the sight words that are in their folders. They get so excited when they recognize one of the words around the building.  First graders will be learning words with the CH sound and second graders will continue silent letters.  Last week they once again all scored 100% on their spelling tests! I am so proud of them. Thank you for practicing at home.

In writing all grades will write or draw another opinion piece. We will continue to learn the difference between facts and opinions and then choose a topic to write about our opinion.

In math:
Kindergartners will be focusing on counting to 100 by ones and tens as well as comparing objects to 10.
First grade will continue to understand that 2 digits represent tens and ones and we will also learn about dimes
Second graders will be working on one and two step word problems and adding and subtracting within 20.

New spelling words and guided reading books will go home Monday.

On Tuesday, we will have our class Valentine's party.  I sent home a class list last week, but if you need a new one , please let me know.  We will exchange Valentine's cards and each student is going to write or draw a "special" Valentine for someone in the class.  We will draw names so it will be a surprise who gets who.  It's always a fun way for the kids to tell each other something special.

Have a great week and don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything.
